I'm voting for Rose Fernandez Tuesday because

Rose Fernandez is passionate about our kids. She brings a sense of urgency and critical change to the Department of Public Instruction.

She is committed to higher standards – and believes more money isn’t the answer. “We can and must expect better outcomes for what we are already spending.”

And… she is one neat, spunky, very sharp woman.

Rose doesn’t have even close to the money her opponent and WEAC have. She needs informed voters to spread the word. Look at her website (www.changedpi.org); read how she addresses the critical issues in the race. If you believe we must chart a different course for education in Wisconsin, pass this message to all your friends, neighbors and associates.

Here’s what the Green Bay Press Gazette had to say:
…. In many ways Tuesday's election is a referendum on whether to approach oversight of Wisconsin schools the way it's been done for decades or to seek a different, more vigorous approach. We think it's time for Rose Fernandez.
     And the Wisconsin State Journal
[Opponent] Evers is smart and experienced, having worked as a teacher, school administrator and, for the last eight years, as the No. 2 official at the state Department of Public Instruction.

But as DPI chief, he'd be a spokesman for the status quo. His agenda is timid and vague, compared to Fernandez's. Evers also goes out of his way not to offend the mighty teachers union, which is sure to spend big bucks on behalf of his campaign in the coming weeks.

Fernandez is not a lifelong and well-connected educator. But she has clearly done her homework and is mounting an impressive grassroots campaign. Her experience as a pediatric nurse who managed an emergency trauma unit for children gives her strong leadership skills and a passion for helping kids.
    And the Beloit Daily News
Rose Fernandez for Schools Post: A reform candidate for Wisconsin’s future.

…. As one might imagine, Fernandez is not the choice of the Wisconsin Education Association Council - the state teachers union - or most others invested in the Madison-centric education establishment. Despite that - or, perhaps, because of that - she has been polling pretty well, and seems to have a legitimate chance to win.
    And the Kenosha News
…. But the right candidate, a candidate who is willing to ruffle feathers and willing to say that the state needs to improve its educational performance might make a difference. We think that candidate is Rose Fernandez.
