McCain in Oshkosh, Gableman under the mat
Town Hall meeting, Friday, 11:30, EAA Eagle Hanger, Oshkosh. From Michelle Litjens, former Winnebago County GOP Chair:
Senator McCain will stop in 3 cities this Friday and Oshkosh happens to be his first stop.
… we need to show the local and national Democrats (there will be a press core there of 60) that Republicans in the Valley won’t lay idle so Obama and Clinton take Wisconsin without a fight.
Please help pass the word. We need to fill the house. That means hundreds.

Out to get Gableman We’ve said it before. The Justice race this time around is critical. Really, really critical. Jerry Bader writes about another case of the trial lawyers throwing their weight around to support Justice Butler, being opposed for his first election by Judge Mike Gableman.
A bunch of trial lawyers are accusing Former Lieutenant Governor Margaret Farrow of being misleading. Margaret Farrow misleading? What?
It’s the Wisconsin Association for Justice (formerly the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers) whining to the self-proclaimed “Wisconsin Judicial Campaign Integrity Committee.” Geez. GMAB.
Read the documents yourself: Margaret Farrow’s Gableman support letter WI Association for Justice (Trial Lawyers) whining letter WI Association for Justice (Trial Lawyers) Press release (press release - what?)
COMMENTS
Although I would hold my nose and vote for McCain if he is the nominee, I do not believe he is electable for a number of reasons.
For starters, the war will be the chief plank of his candidacy, and polls indicate that the economy is what's now on the minds of most Americans. Whether you are for or against the war(I support it), most Americans are tired of it largely due to its gross mismanagement, and McCain's saying that we will be in Iraq for 100 years certainly isn't a prescription for victory in November. Look to the failed Giuliani campaign as to how the war is playing with the voting public. It isn't.
The economy is clearly in crisis and yet McCain is self-admittedly not comfortable with economic issues. He didn't even cast a vote for the recent economic stimulus package.
Since January McCain has missed 1 in 3 Senate votes.
Finally, McCain's age and health have to be major considerations. Mike Huckabee on the other hand is a vibrant campaigner with a great sense of humor(goes a long way in getting crossovers) who speaks for MAIN STREET and not WALL STREET, which is largely responsible for the economic mess we're now in(Personally I'd like to see a Huckabee-Lou Dobbs ticket. Dobbs has a degree in economics and is an economic nationalist).
Finally, the recent Potomac primary results were misleading. They should have been called the "Beltway primaries." The District of Columbia is funded and governed by Congress so clearly the D.C. GOP didn't want to offend McCain. Likewise, heavily populated northeastern Virgina and Maryland are largely D.C. "bedroom communities." Both Virginia and Maryland get a lot more back in federal spending than what their residents/businesses pay in federal taxes. This is not the case with Wisconsin though.
Bottom line--I believe Mike Huckabee is the only ELECTABLE Republican.
Eric, will you be attending a Huckabee (tomorrow night in GB) or McCain (Friday, 11:30, EAA Oshkosh) event this week? Jo E.
