Lies from Planned Parenthood and NARAL

Communiqué, from Wisconsin Right to Life
Yesterday, Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin announced a media campaign that falsely accuses Assembly Representatives Jim Ott (R-Mequon), Mark Honadel (R-South Milwaukee), Karl Van Roy (R-Green Bay) and Mike Huebsch (R-West Salem) of supporting legislation that would result in women being imprisoned for having abortions.

“The accusation that Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin are making is a blatant lie,” said Susan Armacost, Legislative Director for Wisconsin Right to Life.

“The fact is, no woman in the state of Wisconsin will ever go to prison or face any penalty for having an abortion in this state and these dishonest organizations know it,” said Armacost.

Armacost explained that in attempting to justify their false claim, Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin cite a law, s. 940.04, that, prior to 1985, could have been used as the basis for prosecuting women who obtained abortions.

But these unscrupulous organizations fail to tell people that the penalties were nullified by the legislature in 1985 when legislation was enacted (s.940.13) that completely exempts women who undergo abortions in Wisconsin from being penalized in any way under Wisconsin law. All four of the targeted legislators oppose penalizing women for having abortions and they fully support s. 940.13.

“What is even more shocking is that Planned Parenthood participated in and endorsed the passage of the 1985 provision that was enacted to keep women who have abortions out of prison,” said Armacost. “And now they are attacking lawmakers for supporting the very law they helped to enact!. This is the height of hypocrisy.”

“Wisconsin Right to Life calls on Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice to immediately stop this flagrantly dishonest campaign,” said Armacost.

    COMMENTS

If women who have an abortion won't go to prison then why call abortion murder?

You can't have it both ways.
