Rep. Steve Kagen joining me on Jerry Bader Show today

I've sat in a few days this week while Jerry enjoys a few days off with his family. Today in the 10:00 hour, Rep. Kagen will join us in-studio. Hopefully we'll cover the waterfront on issues - his new "No Discrimination in Health Insurance" bill, the FISA vote, earmarks, tax increases, the Second Amendment and the Farm Bill - if we can fit it all in! Call-ins are welcome, 920-406-1360.

The 8:30 time slot will be for catching up on current news, including the Younkers/Saks/GB Common Council $5M 'disagreement.'

In the 9:00 hour, taking a hint from James Wigderson and in celebration of Good Friday and Christ's resurrection , I'm going to see if people are interested in spinning off a discussion based on Charlie Rose's1997 interview of William Buckley about his book Nearer, My God.

Jo, missed the show. How'd it go?

Went well Dave. Thanks for asking. I thought I was polite, but called Rep. Kagen on some of his more blatant info-absences. He's very skilled at political answers that appeal to voters. As a friend said, he ain't no Jay Johnson. Rep. Kagen's position on taxes, spending, health care and national security do not match  the beliefs of the majority in this district. (I know, you're a contributor, a supporter, and won't agree with that statement.) And I don't appreciate what I interpret as manipulation, if not disingenuity, in his approach to us, his constituents. I'll have to respectfully disagree on the political sentiment of the district. Although I only have anecdotal data (talking to my neighbors), the disastrous Bush presidency has pushed many people over to the "Anyone but a Republican" camp. You might feel that Kagen is disingenuous, but will you at least admit that Bush and company have an unmatched record of mendacity?

Hmmm... can't agree with your last statement. Unmatched mendacity?  That's pretty strong. I couldn't go that far. Unmatched lack of spending restraint perhaps...

Discussion of mendacity doesn't address the energy/oil supply however. How can these guys complain about the price of gas and the SPR, yet not support ANWR? That's the concern.... JE
