    Dooley: There they go again

When you want to bury a story, release it on a Friday. When you are a Democrat and you want to bury a story, release it on a Friday after Limbaugh goes off the air.

If you are John Edwards and you want to minimize a huge story you announce it on a Friday after Limbaugh goes off the air on the opening day of the summer Olympics.

The story of the Edwards affair has been out for a year – and the mainstreamers chose to ignore it completely. After all, it was the gossip rag National Enquirer that was doing the reporting, so it must be nonsense.

Well, it turns out that The Enquirer comes out of this with a whole lot more credibility than the New York Times that published a thoroughly debunked rumor of a McCain affair.

Who’d of thunk it? The Newspaper of Record being beaten to a pulp by The National Enquirer. The Enquirer, that’s now reporting that Edwards’ mistress, Rielle Hunter, was paid $15,000 a month in hush money. That’s not bad work if you can get it. $180 grand a year for keeping your yap shut.

So who John Edwards apologize to?

The silliest thing I’ve heard is that Edwards should apologize to Barack (Censored) Obama. Unless Obama asked Edwards about this affair to his face and Edwards lied to him about it, Obama has nothing to do with this. Let me clue the media in on something. Contrary to the template, everything is not about Obama.

Edwards owes his wife and his family unending apologies from this day forth. He also owes an apology to his supporters. But Obama?

The apology I want to see (and never will) is from the mainstream media. Here they are caught again ignoring a story harmful to the Democrats – a media that has left all pretense of objectivity behind them. It’s an activist media, determined to do everything they can to further their personal political agendas.

I’m talking about the news media here, not those who carry the pundit label. Bias in the media is not just what you report and how you report it. More importantly, bias shows in what the media chooses not to report.

Edwards’ actions are his and his alone. He is responsible for them, not the DNC, not Barack (Censored) Obama.

Flash back 2-years; Mark Foley was caught flirting online with a minor Page. For that offense the media and their allies in the Democratic Party successfully tied Foley to every other Republican they could for political benefit in the November elections. Now, in real time, compare and contrast that with how Edwards’ actions will be positioned by the party and the media to be his and his alone.

Obviously the situations are not identical. Foley flirted with a minor; Edwards lied repeatedly about an affair with a consenting adult. But what we have here are two sex scandals one from a major Democrat and one from a small fish Republican. Seeing how the media treats these two situations will provide an interesting case study in media bias.

I already know how it will come out.
