    Solberg: Why John Gard?

Homeland security, the economy, job creation, energy and lower taxes are the critical issues concerning the voters of the 8th Congressional district according to Republican candidate John Gard. Last week former Speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly John Gard (R) shared some of his solutions for the challenges faced by constituents in New London and the district. He is opposed by incumbent Congressman Steve Kagen (D).

According to Gard, one of the things he would do on his first day in office is to focus on rededicating America to becoming the best place in the world to create new manufacturing jobs. In addition, he believes one of the highest priorities is creating a very aggressive energy initiative that includes drilling, alternative fuels and a sustainable long term energy plan. He also would like to help reform government spending so the taxpayers will keep more of their own money.

“The rising cost of gas has had a tremendous impact in this district. Rep. Kagen has voted eight times to make it illegal to drill. He promised to do something about the price of gas but all we see is increase. So the easiest thing Congress can do is vote to lift the ban on drilling and every single time Steve Kagen has had a chance to do this, he has voted to keep the ban in place and make it illegal to drill for oil in America so this drives up the cost,” stated Gard.

According to Gard energy prices are adversely impacting people and restricting their ability to find good paying jobs. He believes that this area needs to be competitive. “Drilling will help create many new jobs in northeastern Wisconsin … because many types of energy creation devices could be manufactured here. I think we are looking at an opportunity to actually grow jobs. Most people in the Valley don’t have disposable income to pay four dollars a gallon and basically be told there is nothing we can do about it!”

Gard believes communities like New London need to continue to be very competitive in job creation. “There is a great quality of life but we have far too many regulations, far too much taxation and not enough aggressive action to really be successful to reach its full potential in the global economy. We come back to energy because it affects everything. I come back to drilling because it drives up the price of a gallon of gas and the costs to businesses right now. They are trying to figure out what long term is going to happen, while Congress instead of being aggressive to actually act is on vacation now,” he added.

Gard believes that this country needs to commit itself to preserving and protecting social security first and stop stealing our money from the social security trust fund for other purposes. With regard to healthcare, “Congressman Kagan promised to introduce his healthcare plan, “No Patient Left Behind” and he has never to this day even put it in writing. So he made a lot of promises and did not deliver. I believe people want to see action. I believe there are some basic things we can do to health care quickly to help lower the cost so people can afford it,” stated Gard.

I wonder if Gard is willing to consider eliminating Ethanol subsides and mandates.

I suggest you call John Gard(920) 857-3068 at his office and ask him about the elimination of ethanol.

John Gard is a carpetbagger who seldom steps foot in his so-called district. His stong-arm tactics as assembly speaker created gridlock and ill-will, and did nothing positive. He was an embarrassment in Wisconsin and would be the same in Washington, should he somehow get there. We are almost rid of Dick Chaney. Let's not put another DC on Capital Hill.
