Holiday Mail for Heroes
Have you received this well-intentioned e-mail? Mine came from a friend earlier this week – you know how it goes - it had been forwarded 10 million times – but still, was… nice.
GREAT IDEA!! When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to the address below. If this is passed on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful heroes would get. They’ve sacrificed so much for us, it’s the lease we can do.
When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please include the following: A Recovering American Soldier [address, Walter Reed Army Medical Center]
If you agree, please pass it on. Well, first of all, don’t. Per good ol’ Mr. Snopes, the idea originated last year at this time and suffice it to say, the GREAT IDEA above is definitely not the way to go. The U.S. Postal Service won’t deliver – nor the services accept – mail addressed to “Any Soldier,” etc. Snopes.com does however, graciously refer readers to their page on “Holiday Mail for Heroes.” This great Red Cross program last year mailed over 600,000 Christmas cards to military hospitals and VAs. Head to the Red Cross web page for specific details.
Mail cards no later than December 10. Again, addressing details and important guidelines (and a great short testimonial video) are on the Red Cross page linked above. Maximum 25 cards from any one person or 50 from any one class or group.
Thank you, Mr. Hero Soldier, for serving for me, for being the face of America abroad, for fighting – and suffering – for my freedoms. May God bless you and your family, during this holiday season.
