Count our property tax blessings - I guess
Sen. Mary Lazich brings us national comparative property tax tax information. Her initial article included the ten highest ranked Wisconsin counties; I’ve added counties in the Fox Valley area as well. I’d say overall, our counties are doing a pretty good job of staying within the top ¼ of country. Not such a great distinction to have…
The nonpartisan Tax Foundation in Washington D.C. has ranked all 788 counties in the United States with population of 65,000 or greater by property taxes paid, based on U.S. Census Bureau data. Here are the top ten counties in Wisconsin and their national ranking. Property Tax on Owner-Occupied Housing, by County, Ranked by Property Taxes Paid, 2005-2007 Average
The national ranking is listed (out of 788) followed by the name of the county and the Median Property Taxes Paid on Homes.

Here is the complete listing of 788 counties. You may want to look at the tax as a % of income. We here in Outagamie and Calumet counties pay 4.0% of our income in property taxes. Dane County residents pay 5% of their income - and homeowners in Nassau County, New York pay a whopping 7.9% of their income, on average, on property taxes. I guess we can count our blessings.
