    "Use stimulus $$s wisely." Duh.

Duh. Governor Doyle says we should use fed stimulus dollars wisely.

And in the same breath he mentions high-speed trains all over the state. Then he says we’ve seen hard times before and will pull through again. Yeah, that’s the way to fix the humongous state deficit. Think positive, we can do it!

In (BIG!) contrast, Milwaukee County Exec. Scott Walker recognizes that free dollars are NOT free. “’Free money’ sounds nice until you read the fine print and realize Milwaukee County taxpayers may be required to provide a local match that they cannot afford.”

Walker would take bail-out dollars only on a case-by-case basis, i.e., only if they meet these specific criteria:
    • No local match is required by the federal government
    • No long-term commitments are mandated by the federal government
    • No future operating or maintenance expenses will result
    Walker reminded Wisconsinites:
The federal government should not be bailing out failed operating budgets of state and local governments. What taxpayer would want to use one-time funds for operations to bail out governments that cannot balance their budgets? Yet that is exactly what Gov. Jim Doyle and four other governors recently called for from the federal government.

.... The real way to stimulate the economy is not to put more money into the hands of the government but into the hands of the people....

Unlike infrastructure projects that take months - if not years - to have an impact, tax cuts can go into effect immediately. This will truly stimulate the economy.

Forty-six years ago this month, President John F. Kennedy told members of Congress that: "It is no contradiction - the most important single thing we can do to stimulate investment in today's economy is to raise consumption by major reduction of individual income tax rates."

    He was right.

.... we need to use these challenging times as an opportunity to streamline our government and make it more cost effective for the future. Then, we can reduce taxes to improve the economy and put more people to work in Wisconsin.
    Indeed.

No, I think Kennedy was WRONG--why "raise consumption"? Why not be content with what one has? Kennedy was also the one who said "A rising tide raises all ships", referring to inflation (as if it were a good thing)--and look what we've got today!

It will lag behind some months, but evetually we WILL get hyperinflation, as a result of the massive amounts of paper chits the Treasury is printing.

I thought it was Reagan who said the rising tide thing.
