Drum roll.... Will Kagen support Card Check this time around?

Several articles yesterday - here's a good one in the Wall Street Journal. Here's another from the Washington Post today. Nancy Pelosi has insisted the "Employee Free Choice" legislation be taken up in the Senate first so that if it can't get through the Senate, her guys and gals are protected from a likely damaging vote in the House.

(Here's one of several good primers on "Employee Free Choice" - or "Card Check," as many call it.)

The bill, introduced yesterday, reportedly has the support of six fewer Senators than when it came through in the last session. Support in the House is wavering as well, with an understanding by politicos that there are some 12 fewer sponsors in the house than there were last time around. Our own Representative Kagen was one of those bill co-sponsors in his first term. Watch for that list of Card Check sponsors in the House (which isn't yet available) - will his name be on it this time around?

Update: Kevin Binversie found the legislation for me - just posted at www.thomas.gov. Search for HR 1409. Sure as shootin' - there's Rep. Kagen, still on that list of co-sponsors.

How about this for a quote of the day?
"Since when is the secret ballot a basic tenet of democracy?" Hoffa said. "Town meetings in New England are as democratic as they come, and they don't use the secret ballot. Elections in the Soviet Union were by secret ballot, but those weren't democratic."

    COMMENTS

I don't recall what Kagen did last time or what came out of his mouth regarding this bill. But you can bet if it's in his best interest to get re-elected he will do whatever it takes. Nancy will say jump and he will ask how high or she may give him cover just like last year when he got cover over big oil issues-off shore drilling. Just enough cover to get him elected again.
