Mark Harris a member of Progressive Majority's "Farm Team"
I think the last time I saw Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris was at a Tom Petri fundraiser in the spring of 2008.
Now here he is, listed on Progressive Majority’s website. And note that he’s not just listed, he’s listed as a “farm team member.” Weird.
Farm team member Mark Harris was first elected in 2005 and defeated a conservative incumbent. Winnebago County is traditionally a conservative portion of the state and his victory was a major power shift for Progressive Majority and our partners. In the past four years, Mark has reduced the county unemployment rate to the lowest in more than 15 years, maintained all county services despite huge budget cuts, and helped to ensure that a new county nursing facility was built. Mark has opposition this cycle and it is important that we support him in his campaign. He will run an aggressive voter contact program. Mark has aspirations of running for higher office in the next several years, so he is a critical protect for progressives. A “critical protect” for progressives. And “aspirations of running for higher office.” Interesting. My guess is that “higher office” is Representative Petri’s 6th Congressional District.
A Progressive? At the helm of Winnebago County? That was surely news to me. Listed right there between Dane County liberal Kathleen Falk and Oshkosh Dem (ran very close race against freshman State Senator Randy Hopper) and City Council member/candidate Jessica King.
Harris is opposed (election April 7) by Jay Schroeder, who promises to- Not accept any pay raise while in office, including the 9% pay raise voted for current exec., Mark Harris.
- Absolutely not propose or accept a county sales tax
- Establish listening sessions in every town and city hall in Winnebago County once per month

Since Petri is pretty much a RINO do-nothing, what difference would it make?

I agree that Petri is a RINO. I think he votes whichever way the prevailing winds blow.
However, I think we learned in the last two elections what that (R) means behind a legislator's name.
In the Senate if Al Franken (laughable) is seated the Dems will have a foolproof majority. The Republicans will be unable to filibuster if votes split partywise.
This is actually unlikely to happen in the House, but right now Petri has that (R) behind his name, which means a lot when it comes to voting because he does vote (R) more than he does (D).

I am sorry some of your facts are jaded. The pay increase is for the NEXT County not for the current County Executive.
The pay raise will not take effect until after the April 7 election. And the County Board approved it by a wide margin.
I also like to add that this $82,000 a year increase to someone that is basically unemployed right now.
Also Mr. Schroeder has not said what he will do with the budget the next 4 years. And he has promised to greatly improve Courthouse security.

Thank you for your points Mike. I think I indicate that the information included about Mr. Schroeder comes from his web site, so your thoughts are helpful. Do you think it's of import that Mr. Harris is listed prominently on Progress Majority's website and proclaimed a member of their "farm team?"

The Progressive Majority is in cahoots with the likes of Tim Gill, an open homosexual, who is on the record with his plan to change the faces in local government and state government by bringing in serious money to races. Gill wants to advance the homosexual agenda this way and has been very successful--bringing in quite a bit of money in '06 and '08. The Progressive Majority promotes virtually every liberal idea you can think of and is becoming more well funded and better organized each cycle. In 2005, Progressive Majority targeted 9 local races and won 8 of them. Harris's prominence within this group should not be discounted. There is an agenda--and it is being aggressively pursued.

Julaine Appling (Thu Mar 19 21:37:22 2009)
YIKES!!!!

Capt. Ron (Thu Mar 19 23:47:35 2009)
"Open Homosexual?" Really? Julaine Appling, on the other hand, has no agenda. Or she is just much less successful at promoting it. I wish Progressive Majority good luck in opposing the reactionary, anti-family anti-everything agenda of the Wisconsin Family Council, and good luck to Mark Harris in his reelection. We need more dedicated progressives in the Fox Valley.
