Kagen wasted no time paying himself back

Many thanks to the guys at GOP3.com for pointing out yesterday’s article in The Hill. Newly elected representatives wasted no time reaching their hands out on K Street to capture the big dollars from lobbyists.

The numbers show that although they said during their campaigns that they would reform the “culture of corruption” in Washington, many quickly immersed themselves in the town’s lobbyist-dominated fundraising network to fill up their coffers and retire their debt.

“While some House freshmen have done little fundraising, more than half of those who had revealed their fundraising activities by yesterday reported raising between $35,000 and $83,000 between Election Day and the swearing-in of the new Congress, usually a very quiet time on the fundraising circuit. Most of the money came from political action committees (PACs) representing corporate and labor interests.”

Our own Congressman Kagen raised “about $35,000”. Thanks again to Dan Suhr at GOP3.com for fishing out Rep. Kagen’s most recent report to the Federal Elections Commission. Take a look at the corporations/lobbyists who quickly offered to help Dr. Kagen pay off his debt.

It’s hard (and unwise) to stay innocent in this business we call representative government. Geez.

    COMMENTS

If we look at the former congressman from this area we would find he took money from a person that was convicted of pedaling influence for money. His name is Jack Abramoff, now serving a prison sentence, and he gave money to Mark Green. Only the amount was in dispute. Mark said it was about $30k, Abramoff says he gave more than that. We all know what Jack was selling. Other former congressmen he dealt with are going or are in prison. Example like Ney from Ohio comes to mind. Is this the corruption you are talking about? If not, are you saying that receiving monies from Pac’s is corrupt? I wonder if John Gard got any PAC monies when he was in state office. Probably not, he just killed the ethics bill that his party supported including Mike Ellis. I see that now he is gone, they passed in and sent it to the Governor. I guess one should not live in a glass house if one wants to throw stones at others.

To the previous poster? Stop leaving false claims on websites. Mark Green didn't take one red cent from Abramhoff. It was Jim Doyle who took money from Abramhoff's law partners.

Editor's Note: Concerned GOP, you are right on. The closest Abramoff money can get to Rep. Green is sports tickets for Mark Graul, Green's aid and campaign manager and $31,000 donated to Green by Tom DeLay, proclained tainted by association. (Was Green supposed to have known those dollars were tainted?)
According to none other than the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, Governor Doyle received $1,000 from Abramoff's law firm, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, $1,000 and State Rep. Tom Nelson (D-Kaukauna) received $400. JE
