The Natural Conservative: Barack's Garden Party
Political Woodstock 2009. Democrats are dancing in the mud on Yasgur’s Farm. Pres. Obama, free love and “Stick it to The Man!” Abortion on demand. Shave those CEO salaries. Waterboard the credit card gougers. Hold health insurers by their ankles out their 76th story windows and shake all the change out of their worsted wool pockets for the huddled masses below yearning to breathe free.
On stage, the Mothers blast, “Free is when you don’t have to pay for nothing or do nothing, we want to be free – free as the wind.”
Color don’t matter no more. Ebony and Ivory, together in perfect harmony. Pres. Obama is a brother and we white folk elected him. He is our Baptism, we are absolved from the original sin of slavery. Hallelujah! Obama in the Highest!
Old Joe McDonald and the Fish sing, “One, two, three, what are we fightin’ for, don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn, next stop’s Afghanistan. And it’s five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates. Ain’t no time to wonder why, we’re all gonna die.”
Ain’t it great to have the world’s biggest celebrity as our president!? The world will LOVE us for a change. He is our Glasnost, our Gorbachev. He will bring our troops home.
But as Jimi Hendrix takes the stage -- “Actin’ funny, but I don’t know why, ’xcuse me while I kiss this guy!” -- there is more dissonance than his Star Bangled Banner.
Obama is shifting troops to Afghanistan. Wall Street fat cats with their debt-backed chicanery are taken to the corner bar for a shot and a finger-wagging. Big Daddy Government sternly fights back a grin and whips out our wallet for another ‘boys will be boys’ bailout. Our Savior is not punishing but forgiving! Where is our retribution, our revolution?!

Look! The Reunion we’ve all been waiting for! Only Our King could have brought them back together!
“But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao, You ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow. Don't you know it's gonna be all right.”
While Pres. Bush sits down home in Texas singing, “It's all right now, I learned my lesson well. You see, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself,” Pres. Obama is singing along.
Yes, in 2010 and 2012, Woodstock 2009 will slowly expire. The buggy-whip of adrenaline and medical marijuana will peel them back. And sober, good-humored grown ups, from both parties, will file in to clean up the mess and restore Yasgur’s Farm to productivity.
Until we go back, Jack, do it again. Wheels turnin’ round and round.
