Greenleaf patriots. Salt of the earth
Last night I sat amongst fifty or so patriots. True patriots. Another one of what you might call “those tea party groups.” Except this is a non-tea-party tea party group of folks, meeting up in Greenleaf in southern, rural Brown County. Beautiful hills and dales, back highways. Folks from places I know only from seeing the names on road signs in amongst those rolling hills.
Dick Koltz is the designated leader; maybe because the group meets at his place, the Rock-K-Ranch, where he and his family organize and run hay rides for families and groups in surrounding communities. (920-864-2570, if you want to check out those hay rides. Great people.) Dick is a jolly Santa Claus of a man, the proud father of 11 and grandfather of 25, who starts every meeting he’s responsible for with a prayer. And this was no exception. This is a man who is thankful for his great country.
Jerry Bader, talk show guy on ‘TAQ (1360 AM, Green Bay to Sheboygan to Appleton, 8:30 AM to 11:00) was the guest speaker and talked conservative politics. Pro bono – and the group was sincerely appreciative. Senator Alan Lasee was there too – all 6’ 3” (am I close Al?) of him – cowboy boots and all. Well, I think the Senator had his cowboy boots on. Doesn’t he always?
Dick Koltz was very specific: “We didn’t invite him, but he’s here.”
That’s the party apologist in Koltz – and amongst the whole group. You know the spiel. We’re not here to support a party, the GOP is morally corrupt, doesn’t deserve our support, must get back on track. What’s important is not the party – but rather what we believe.
Be assured, Sen. Lasee and his conservative pedigree was welcome. Dick’s comment meant not only to say that Lasee wasn’t a special invited guest – but also I think, to say “thanks Senator, for making your way here, for being interested enough to spend a beautiful Tuesday evening this way.”
There was a mini-conversation about Republicans being the “party of NO.” Lasee said he was proud to have said no – over and over and over. He reminded the group Republicans would have to be saying more and more of it in response to the dreadful budget put forward by Governor Doyle. Ronald Zahn, now of De Pere, said something like “I’m proud to be the party of NO – not “NO” – but rather, “the party of KNOW.” We KNOW the constitution and we KNOW the American entrepreneurial spirit.” I would add, we KNOW liberty and we KNOW freedom – and we KNOW what it takes to keep this great country free and prosperous.
Great, great people. Americans through and through. Down to earth Americans. Salt of the earth, hard working folks. I loved it.
They KNOW they want to keep learning, they’re very worried about this country and they want to make a difference. Yes. They absolutely want to make a difference. For their families. Their kids and their kids’ kids.
The next meeting of these Greenleaf patriots is on Tuesday, June 16, 7:00 at the Rock-K-Ranch, 2372 Day Street, Greenleaf. Senator Lasee agreed to talk with them about the details of the budget. Believe it – Lasee will lay it on the line – all the blood and guts of the thing. Call Dick at the Rock-K for information if you need it.

COMMENTS
I am confused. Americans? Are we to believe that the only folks who qualify as Americans are folks on the conservative side of the spectrum who meet in rural America to reinforce a set of commonly held beliefs?
I was taught in my civics classes that America is a place where folks of all persuasions could live and have their views represented and still qualify as Americans. Oh maybe you meant true Americans!? Now I get it! Folks who gather and commonly view the world through the same lens, as long as the lens is conservative qualify as TRUE AMERICANS. Folks who KNOW whats right. What a bunch of baloney! I am surprised that the cowboy boots, hat and regalia do not also include a nice Buntline Pistol and Bowie knife ta boot! Imagine this line delivered in true John Wayne fashion...Well pilgrim meet ya at the Rock-K-Ranch and we can split a can of blood and guts budget bull.
My idea of the perfect evening! YUK

YUK!?? Gosh Billie, get a grip. This is America. These were Americans. True Americans? Gee, I didn't make that claim, whatever it might mean. But great people, you bet. Sincere. Passionate about their beliefs. Civil. Motivated. Hard-working. Down-to-earth. And yes, Americans all. I'm sure not just a few liberals might qualify for the same adjectives. Try looking for greatness in your own world once in a while; you'll find it. This, after all, is America.

Hey bille, How about reading the article as it is !
Jo did not say- as You imply and protest (!)- that only patriots are true Americans.
You are so typical of the brainwashed news media with distortion of the truth.
How about this, in simple terms for you
All Citizens are Americans
Not all Americans are Patriots
Jo was among those who are, and used a word (Patriot) that I see you detest, by your lack of reference to it
Too bad.

Rich (Wed May 20 09:00:36 2009)
Billie...get a grip and stop the gripe!
It appears that you can't handle the truth or don't confuse me with the facts. Our state and nation is going in the wrong direction...open eyes and ears before our freedoms are lost!

Jack the Conservative (Wed May 20 09:51:27 2009)
Sure billye, was it those of us who believe in limited government, the REAL rule of law, the constitution, individual rights that caused the economic and social turmoil in this country? Or those who "Progressively" led us down a different path?
sure, you of different mind are welcome to stay. But be aware that the Obama adiminstration has labeled all of us here who realize the folly of his ways as potential terrorists, not worthy of the natural rights we have. We see clearly what the "tolerant progressives" have in mind. They will not stop until they have destroyed freedom and prosperity, and have snuffed out dissent. (Reference MIAC, DHS memos, "HATE" crime legislation, assault on self defense/gun rights, and more and more and more.....) We have seen the future, and we do not like it. We are not going to sit idly by and watch freedom wither away. But please, if you do not like freedom and prosperity, why not go to an already socialist country, so we can patch up the damage that mainstream Democrats and Republicans have saddled us with?
Why turn us into a despotic socialist state, when there are already a good number of those to choose from?

Ken Van Doren (Wed May 20 13:19:13 2009)
Gosh oh golly musta hit a nerve! Well I'll just be ridin off into the sunset. So buckaroos gather round the ole camp fire tonight and tell tall tales about how much better off we were when George and Dicky were headin the cattle drive.

billie (Wed May 20 14:37:06 2009)
Good idea Billie, go ride off.
But before you go, read this
George and Dick are not our hero's, nor even considered so
You will find John Adams and his " Patriotic " friends there instead

Rich (Wed May 20 17:43:13 2009)
Folks, This is a tough battle. most of us have been brainwashed by the Public Education system, our Universities. They do not even teach the Constitution anymore. I know, I was one of them. I used to believe Fox news was the bible.
If anybody wants to be called a Patriot, one must study the Constitution, the authors of it, and why they said what they said. Thomas Jefferson and the gang had just been through King George and all of the evil things he did to the British people. I think the authors of the Constitution knew what they were talking about. After you have studied that, compare all of that information to what is happening today. "Tryanny", One World Government, the loss of Sovereignty. Fox News has an agenda, just like MSNBC, CNN and all of the rest.
Stop believeing the lies.
