    Budget sausage-making continues

At 9:00 last night, Assembly Speaker Sheridan claimed he has the 50 votes to pass the budget out of the Assembly and on to the Senate. Earlier in the evening Republican Leader Jeff Fitzgerald said he doesn’t expect any Republican votes for the budget in the Assembly.

The Assembly was called to meet at 10:00 Thursday morning; they met for mere minutes, then broke into party caucuses where they stayed all day (except for a vote to approve necessary accounting fiddling to keep the current budget out of deficit..

The WisPolitics Budget Blog quotes Sheridan
"Our folks have worked so hard this week. We started out here Monday, and as you know there were a lot of early mornings and late nights. I'm proud of the work that they did," he said.

"We all grew a lot this week, and I think the citizens and the families of this state should be relieved that we protected (them)," Sheridan said.
Grew a lot? Geez, tell it like it is. It took the whole week to bring in little changes here, big changes there to buy enough Democrat votes to (supposedly) pass this budget.

MacIver did an excellent job sorting out the good, bad, and the ugly payoffs resulting from Wednesday night’s budget goings-on. Read the whole thing. Good stuff.

Fred Dooley doesn’t let Governor Doyle get away with his typical budget hype that he shared with the Green Bay Obama crowd yesterday.
I'm watching the 10 o'clock news on Fox 6 and they are flashing the following graphic from Jim Doyle regarding the budget.

First, I am not proposing any new taxes.
Second, we must make deep cuts to state government spending.
Third, we must preserve our essential services such as education and public safety.

Seriously, how can the man tell this lie time after time after time and get away with it?

First, I don't have enough fingers and toes to add up all the new taxes and fees. Just because you want to pretend they aren't there Governor does not mean that they are not, $3 billion worth of no new taxes. Jim Doyle must have graduated from RUSD to think that $3billion = 0.

Second, state spending is up 7%, how the hell is that a cut?
Republicans are ready with a stack of critical amendments for today’s floor sessions – finally being able to offer them up and finally being able to vote on amendments (50?, 100?) already agreed to by the Dems.

    < Stay tuned.

Doyle understands that in his world he was going to raise taxes 10 or 15% and since he only raised them 7% that is a "cut". That is exactly why he threw everything up against the wall that he could possibly think of early on knowing that if he could get half of it to stick it would be a win for him and than marketed to us as a cut. Not a political game I am willing to play any more. I am not being fooled.
