Imagine that. Following the will of one's district.

When campaigning last fall, Rep. Margaret Krusick (D-Milwaukee) said “Most of the people I talk to [are] concerned about their job security. Many are having a hard time paying the mortgage, buying groceries or filling up their car.” According to an October, 2008 Journal Sentinel article, Krusick said “she will work for responsible state spending plans…”

Fast forward to last week and Krusick’s NO vote on the state budget. Rep. Krusick told WisPolitics she was one of two Democrat No votes because “she was following the will of her district.”

Imagine that. Following the will of her district.

Editorial staff at the Post-Crescent has twice reprimanded Rep. Tom Nelson (D-Kaukauna) and Rep. Bernard Schaber (D-Appleton) for their support of the Assembly version of this budget. From their most recent piece on the subject:
We’re particularly disappointed with the “yes” votes by Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber and Rep. Tom Nelson. They haven’t served the public with their decisions.
Bernard Schaber has apparently received a great number of comments on the budget.
Thank you for contacting my office. It is very important to me to listen to the views of my constituents. Currently, we are experiences [sic] a high volume of emails. I would like to take the time to write to all my constituents individually. This takes a little more time. You will receive a formal response in the mail.
I’m guessing the will of the people in those emails may not correspond with the will of the Democratic Party’s leadership in the Assembly (which includes Majority Leader Nelson). What do you think? Whose will is it that’s influencing Bernard Schaber?

Perhaps it’s time your legislator was thinking about his or her own job security. Keep sending those cards and letters (and emails). Today is the day. Emails. Let your representative hear from you about this budget. Rep.BernardSchaber@legis.wisconsin.govRep.Nelson@legis.wisconsin.gov.

Emails are great Jo- but nothing is quite as effective as the phone ringing off the hook.

Majority Leader Tom Nelson, (Kaukauna) (888) 534-0005

    and

Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker (608) 266-2502
