    When will Doyle get hooked?

Dennis Troha is a BIG fish. And he’s a BIG fish that swims close-up with the governor of this great state of ours.

Even as news came forward a week ago of Troha pulling out of an $808M casino deal, then news the following day of an FBI investigation, I was shaken by Troha’s indictment in Milwaukee yesterday.

Today’s Wisconsin State Journal article does a good job in summing it all up. The 8-page indictment is here, if you're curious.

In researching Doyle’s creative inaugural party/fundraiser/charity affair, Mr. Troha was portrayed to me by the local Boys and Girls Club as a great humanitarian who is a generous donor to the Kenosha Boys and Girls Club. This man will have his day in court, but perhaps his days as a do-gooder are over. Maybe it’s time somebody has noticed the emperor has no clothes.

As I shared in that December article, these Doyle folks are brilliant. And felt, of course, compelled to defend themselves. The Doyle press release, via WisPolitics.com, is below:

"Dennis Troha, his wife, and his adult children have contributed to and helped raise money for my campaign, just as they have for many other Democrats and Republicans in Wisconsin and elsewhere, including former Governor Tommy Thompson and President George W. Bush. He and his family have a long history of activism in Kenosha, and on behalf of causes they believe in, like the Boys and Girls Clubs.

"My campaign was aware of nothing to suggest that the contributions received from Mr. Troha were in any way inappropriate or unlawful. In fact, by all appearances, they were indistinguishable from the many contributions received by countless campaigns, Democratic and Republican, across the state.

"And as with any contribution, my campaign reported and disclosed these contributions in full accordance with Wisconsin's campaign finance laws.

"The indictments returned today contain allegations that we take very seriously. The people who made the contributions argue strenuously that the contributions were legitimate. We will watch closely as this matter plays out in a court of law, and should the allegations be proven true, my campaign will immediately return the money.

"As a District Attorney, Attorney General, and now as Governor, I have always demanded that my campaigns adhere to the highest standards of ethics and good governance. The people of Wisconsin deserve nothing less."

    Give me a break.

Democrat or Republican, legal campaign contributions or not, Potawatomi or Menominee, Doyle is deeply intertwined with this casino money business. He will slip and slide with accusations that the investigation is a political one, that he’s the innocent victim here – and it sickens me.

How will he get out of this one?

    COMMENTS

If it gets much hotter in Madison, the people involved will get out of it when they get out of prison.
It is really time that we hire non-politicians for a change for elected office.
