Burri: Sarah Palin for Prez troubles me

This is a little disappointing. Over at Right Wing News, John Hawkins took a poll of conservative bloggers: Whom would you choose, if the 2012 Republican primary was today?

    Here's how it came out:

    12) Mike Huckabee: 0
    11) Ron Paul: 1
    10) Newt Gingrich: 2
    9) Haley Barbour: 2
    8) Rick Perry: 3
    7) John Thune: 5
    6) Jeb Bush: 5
    5) Tim Pawlenty: 6
    4) Mitch Daniels: 7
    3) Mitt Romney: 8
    2) Mike Pence: 10
    1) Sarah Palin: 20

Sarah Palin, huh? That troubles me. We'll come back to it.

I voted for Rick Perry. He’s a two-term (soon to be three, if he can fight off a primary and then win in November) governor of a major state (Texas); his state is doing well economically, compared to the nation; and he is, as far as I can tell, more conservative than Scott Brown.

I’d also support John Thune, although he’s only a first-term Senator still. Jeb Bush, sure – he’s got that big-state executive experience. So does Tim Pawlenty, although… Minnesota. Ugh.

The rest? Huckabee’s got that “sure I’ll raise taxes” history. Paul’s an isolationist, and a little weird besides. Romney has RomneyCare. No, thanks.

Newt Gingrich? Conservative and experienced. Heck of an anchor hanging from his name, though – Jeb’s, too, for that matter. A lot of baggage from the partisan wars of the 1990s.

Still. If his reputation took some hits, at least he was fighting. Put me down as a Gingrich agnostic. A Gingnostic.

The rest of them – with one exception – I’ve no idea.
The exception, of course, is Sarah Palin. The caveats: I like Sarah Palin. She’s smart, charismatic, tough, and a walk-it-like-you-talk-it conservative. The way things are going, she'll be the patron saint of the Tea Party movement. Someday, she might be a damn fine candidate.

That time isn’t now, and it won’t be in 2012. I don’t see how it could.

We Republicans quite rightly blasted Obama’s inexperience during the 2008 campaign. It wasn’t just a partisan talking point: we did it for a reason. Experience counts.

    Last June, I wrote:
For example: in 1958, Colin Powell was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Four years later, he made captain. Fourteen years after that, he graduated from the National War College. He made brigadier general two years later, and then, in 1989, was appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Thirty-one years from entry-level to The Man, and rightly so. That’s not a job for a neophyte. Not a place to stick some greenhorn who hasn’t seen it all with his own eyes.
You don’t become CEO of a major corporation four years out of business school. You don’t become Chief of Police four years after joining the force.
A year into Obama's first term, and he's flailing. And failing. There's a reason for that. He wasn’t ready. And, based solely on her resume, neither is Palin. She was Governor of Alaska for two years. Two years. That’s not enough time. It’s not enough seasoning.

Full disclosure: if she's the nominee, I'll support her. Probably. She'll be better than Obama, whatever her faults. But we have better choices, and we should take one. She can serve as Secretary of Energy; or the Interior; or…hell, Vice President. And then, maybe, she will have the experience.

Or…maybe Palin is one of those rare people who can excel beyond expectation. That does happen. We can hope so.

But we, conservatives, do not depend on hope. We depend on facts, and performance, and history. Palin doesn't have them. Not yet.

Lance Burri blogs regularly via his site, The TrogloPundit.

What is the evidence, specifically, for Palin being "smart?"

Although a huge fan of Gov. Palin, I too share the fear that the liberal schizsosphere would create a caricature of her following the first sentence in her Inaugural Address. Their aversion to her is what makes her so attactive as a conservative candidate - she makes their little liberal heads explode, and brings forth the true feelings of political hatred harbored within the pea-pickin' little liberal hearts, dogone it. Almost like when one dog tries to eat from the other dog's bowl, liberals fear she's gonna' eat their lunches (which I think she's doing anyway).

So far she's doing a great job with the T.E.A. Parties, as evidenced by all the sputtering liberals using the vile homosexual term, "teabagger" when discussing Palin and the economic insurrection currently sweeping our nation.

While she circles-in for her ultimate landing somewhere in the field of government, I hope she continues to make the little heads pop over at MSNBC. And when she finally lands I too hope it's not in a 2012 Presidential campaign - even though she's still more experienced than the teleprompter reader we presently grace with free housing in Washington D.C.

Just to set the record straight and for purposes of clarity, "teabagging" is not a "homosexual term". It is a term for a sexual activity that either gender can engage in. Sorry to take away another of your weapons in the struggle to dehumanize and portray as vile our GLBT neighbors. You need to take a university class in human sexual behavior and then speak the truth.

Why would Rick Perry want to be president of a country he wants to secede from?

I watched a number of recent Palin interviews. She postured as something of an outsider against the establishment. She came off as intelligent, and both genuine and tough with grace in a way that say, a Hillary can not muster. Just when I was starting to admire her, she starts stumping for the Big government "conservatives" McCain and Perry. (Medina by far is the class of the race in TX. An honest, articulate advocate of limited government and individual rights.) I did not give Palin any credibility during the race because of her running mate. McCain pretends to honor that he does not deserve, as he has flopped on issues more than Flipper Romney.

While perhaps she could plead ignorance the first time around with McCain, Palin has again discredited herself, this time irreversibly in my mind. She should be more careful whom she hangs out with.

Just for once, instead of sarcastic comments I'd like a liberal to explain to me why they think Sarah Palin isn't smart?

And don't give me, "because she can see Russia from her back porch."

C.R. to answer your question, Palin is, in my opinion very smart. But she is neither wise, knowledgeable, experienced, or honest.

As a governor and person she was pretty decent. She just took poor advice from the McCain campaign leaders. Could she be a decent leader? On her own, yes. But even now she is allowing the right wing fringe to influence her ideas. (But I'm biased. I voted McCain-Palin)

Strange how the comments come out against Palin..

As Mayor of a small town,
She has more administrative experience than both the President and the Secretary of State had TOGETHER
    But she is "un-qualified"

She paid her Taxes, which is something that our US Treasurer was not capable of, nor most all of the Cabinet.
So you can say she knows government funding more than the entire cabinet.
    But she is "un-qualified"

Funny how the "nit-pickers " come out at the sound of her name, and there is deathly silence at the fallacey of others ?

You see Mr Burri, you are a Republican, and thats why you cannot see...

You argue with "Tea Party" standards but fail to understand the back biting which occured by Mc Cain's campaign.
Mrs Palin for your information is supporting Mc Cain, not for his principles, but because he allowed her to get to the national stage.
Its called "payback" Mr Burri !
And Sarah Palin has the fortitude and the personal integrity to do that.
She knows only too well how the east coast Repubs treated her and the disrespect she received at the end of the campaign, but this is for "John"
I had to do it too, when I worked Mr Burri, I payed back those who helped me when I was young, by coming to their aid later.
That my friend shows true "integrity", and responsibility, something that both parties need to become familiar with in my mind.....and to practice

Sorry, Dave. This is not an answer. This is simply your opinion. On what is it based,as long as you've chosen to answer.

The statement was actually addressed to Mr. Spice.
