    Solberg: Healing After an Abortion

Last Friday, tens of thousands gathered at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the “March for Life” in commemoration of the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision (Roe v. Wade) that legalized abortion. Actress Jennifer O’Neill was one of the speakers sharing the struggles millions of women continue to carry with them after an abortion. “Our basic campaign is that abortion hurts women,” stated O’Neill.

The day before the March for Life, O’Neill spoke to youth at a Silent No More Awareness gathering event in Washington, D.C. Silent No More brings awareness to the damage that women and men suffer post abortion and the emotional and spiritual healing available through Christ.

O’Neill believes children today are being brought up in a culture of death, yet they are realizing the importance of their voice for life. O’Neill in referring to the youth attending the rally stated, “They are awesome! They are who we have to pass the baton to. We are bold and loving and not lukewarm about the issue. So it is just particularly exciting to work with the youth on this issue,” continued O’Neill.

Among the major film credits Ms. O’Neill achieved as an actress in the 1970’s was Rio Lobo, The Summer of ’42 and The Carey Treatment. During this period she also had an abortion which she regrets today. She knows first hand what a post abortion experience brings to the mother and father. “The aftermath is devastating. 1/3 of our young generation is missing because of abortion. And the statistics show that women who have suffered abortions have higher rates of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, depression, substance abuse and death. We are not designed to kill our children!” stated Mrs. O’Neill.

“If you put it in practical terms as far as this health bill and those voting on it need to understand on a practical side it will cost billions of dollars to cover the aftermath for women’s health and follow up care (after an abortion)” stated O’Neill.

According to O’Neill, the climate today in Washington is seeking to include the public funding of abortions in the Health Care legislation. “We need to have our voices very clear. My banner is experience overrides theory! They used to be able to say that what you are carrying is a cluster of cells with the absence of the ultrasound. Now we clearly know that what anyone is carrying from conception is a baby,” she stated.

O’Neill feels that countless women out there are Silent No More. “We are accepting God’s grace, forgiveness, healing and wholeness in Christ for all that we did. Then we can become billboards for the truth!” stated O’Neill.

At the March for Life rally last Friday, Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) told CNS News that the language in the senate healthcare bill that would allow tax dollars to fund abortions played a role in defeating it. "I want to give great credit to the pro-life Republicans and Democrats who took a stand in the House of Representatives on the traditional language that was encompassed first in the Hyde Amendment and then in the Stupak-Pitts Amendment – so, I think it played a critical role." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) recently said there were not enough votes to pass the Senate version of the bill in the House of Representatives.

Silent No More Awareness is a non denominational, non political group that brings public awareness to the devastation abortion brings to women and men. The campaign seeks to expose and heal the secrecy and silence surrounding the emotional and physical pain of abortion; Jennifer O'Neill and Dr. Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin Luther King) are the spokespersons.
