The guy who will tell it to you straight
We say we want politicians to be honest with us. And then when they’re honest, we vote them out of office because they didn’t agree with us 100% or because they didn’t give us this benefit or that benefit that we thought we couldn’t do without.
Mike Marsden, Chairman of the Town of Grand Chute, was recently called “arrogant” by the local paper. Of course, they also said "Mike Marsden has led Grand Chute to unprecedented heights as Grand Chute town chairman over his 12 years in office." Geez.
What Marsden is, is not arrogant, but straightforward. He knows his stuff. When you’re dealing with him, you know exactly where you stand and what you have to do (let’s say, in the case of a developer) to be right with permits and ordinances and all that stuff. You know the rules won’t change in the middle of the game. Marsden can and does make tough decisions when it’s necessary – and he doesn’t mince words about it. Ok. You want to call that arrogant? I call it darned competent governing.
Before he was elected, Marsden worked in Rock County and then Outagamie County as the director of public works. He gained experience critical to leading Wisconsin's most populous town — a town that includes one of the state's largest retail mall areas, a wide variety of residential areas and a thriving manufacturing sector.
Indeed, in precious little time, Marsden ramped up needed activity to accommodate rapid growth — and has the town continuously planning for the future, in the areas of streets, stormwater control, water and wastewater needs, public safety and zoning and comprehensive planning.
I don't know a man of greater integrity than Mike Marsden. He is phenomenally dedicated and hard-working. He demands excellence of Grand Chute town employees and contractors. Marsden demands excellence because he believes his sole job is to do what's best for the residents of Grand Chute.
Those of you in the Town of Grand Chute, you’re fortunate to have Marsden. Vote for him. All of the rest of you? Of course, VOTE! Vote for integrity, intellect, and the commitment to communicate. Don’t vote for the guy that just tells you what you want to hear and has trouble taking a stand. The same guy who pussy-foots around an issue, won’t return phone calls, and/or can’t give you a straight answer, especially when the straight answer might not be the popular answer. Choose the guy who yes, has integrity and intellect.
And choose the guy who will tell it to you straight.
