Great lady running for the seat being vacated by Roger Roth

Michelle Litjens, a Town of Vinland resident, will be running for the 56th Assembly seat currently held by state Representative Roger Roth.

Michelle is a great lady and a political friend – a committed mom, successful businesswoman and passionate conservative. I like her!

In her announcement today, Michelle expressed the angst – and hope – of many in the Fox Valley and in Wisconsin.
We are at a tipping point. We have to decide whether we want a government which controls every aspect of our lives, taxes us out of our homes and taxes jobs out of our state or if we want a Wisconsin where we the people have the ability to make a future for ourselves. A future where we can afford to live here, work here, retire here and raise our children here.

I want my children to know their grandparents. Our Government must stop forcing retirees to move to Florida because of our tax climate. Madison must change how it does business and I want to make sure the job is done right.
Michelle is an active community volunteer. She has volunteered with the Oshkosh Unified Catholic Schools, Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, Winnebago and Wisconsin Apartment Associations, National Rifle Association, Winnebago Homebuilders Association, Junior Achievement, and the Winnebago County Republican Party.

Michelle and her husband Tony have owned and operated a small business in Oshkosh for the past 15 years. They are the parents of two children, ages 11 and 13, and are long-time area residents.

The 56th Assembly District encompasses the Village of Winneconne and the northern townships of Winnebago County, along with part of the City of Appleton and the Towns of Grand Chute, Greenville, Dale, and Center in Outagamie County.

Is the Town of Menasha not worthy of mention in the 56th?

Of course! One of those wonderful "northern townships of Winnebago County." But thanks for delineating!

When did Roger drop out of that race? Last I heard he was in that race and the 8th Cong. District race.

In my opinion Litjens is an excellent candidate.

    Jo:
I don't think Roger Roth has dropped out of the 56th race and does not have to make up his mind until July 1st. As I understand, he has signed up to run for the 56th but can change his mind by that July 1st deadline since you cannot have two spots on the ballot.
If in fact I am correct it does put potential candidates(I know of others who have expressed interest)at a disadvantage not knowing if Roger is running or not.

I believe seeing that they are two different postions in reality Roger could run for both. Manitowoc County Exec. Ziegelbauer is also in the state assembly. @ seperate offices.

    Jay:
The difference with Ziegelbauer is that one of the positions is non-partisan and that makes it legal. Legally, Roger cannot run for two different partisan positions on the ballot. He needs to decide by July 1st when nomination papers are due.
