Great that Great Lakes shipping is up, but...

Port and terminal operators lost millions - and jobs due to Wisconsin rules. Imagine.
Milwaukee's port and terminal operators lost millions in revenue and about 25 jobs partly because of state rules that clamped down on the shipment of wind-turbine components, one of the region's hottest commodities.

Caravans of the huge turbine parts were shipped through Duluth, Minn., and Beaumont, Texas, rather than Milwaukee.

But the Port of Milwaukee has made room for storage of wind blades, hoping to get more of that business. The entrance ramp to I-794 will be widened this summer so that trucks can get on the highway easier and not have to use city streets.

It appears that the standard operating proceedure here is to omit important details if they don't support the premise that you are espousing.

Jo, you really should mention that those rule are no longer in effect.

"Now trucks are allowed to carry wind-turbine parts day and night, except during rush hour in urban areas, said Chris Klein, executive assistant to Transportation Secretary Frank Busalacchi. Roadway maintenance projects were adjusted to accommodate wind-turbine shipments, according to an Oct. 3 letter from Busalacchi to Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett"

It also would be good to mention the artice from which you posted the information. Maybe this one?http://www.jsonline.com/business/42032092.html

I apologize Dean; link should be there - as you know, I always acknowledge any source used. Missed it this morning. Folks can read the rest of the story... (at least, when I get the link in there! - eek.)
