Steineke announces bid to succeed Rep. Nelson

Jim Steineke, founder of the Tea Party group, Fox Valley Initiative is taking another run at the 5th Assembly seat (Kaukauna, north to a few wards in Green Bay). Word has it he’s encouraged by incumbent (and Majority Leader) Tom Nelson’s almost sure run for the Dem spot on the Lt. Governor ticket. Jim’s announcement (below) portends a Republican primary with Hobart residents Craig Fletcher and Dave Landwehr in the race as well.
KAUKAUNA – Jim Steineke has spent much of the last year building a citizen coalition called the Fox Valley Initiative whose mission is to promote limited government, lower taxes, and integrity and accountability in government. Now he says he plans to take those principles to Madison. “I have spent so much time in the last year talking to people, urging them to get involved in their government, trying to give them a voice. I can hardly expect others to stick their necks out on the line if I’m not willing to do the same,” says Steineke.

Steineke, who is running as a Republican, believes that people across the state and the nation are sick and tired of party politics. He says that “both political parties are to blame for the mess that we are in today. President Bush was responsible for out of control spending at the federal level that led to unprecedented levels of debt. Now Governor Doyle and his allies in the State Legislature have spent the state government into a hole and are taxing and regulating Wisconsin businesses at a rate that is devastating for the economy,” said Steineke.

When asked what the most important issues are in the campaign, Steineke said that jobs and the economy are the most critical concerns on the voters mind. “Nothing else matters if you don’t have a job. When you’re unemployed, you want to hear how candidates plan on turning things around. You want to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” he says. “Nothing will change however, unless we can get our state government under control. The massive spending has led to even higher taxes and that along with burdensome regulations on our local businesses is choking the life out of the economy. We need to do our best to get government out of people’s lives and out of the way of businesses if we want to see prosperous times ahead,” says Steineke.

Even through all of the troubling news, Steineke sees reason for hope. “Northeast Wisconsin is a tremendous place to live and do business. The people are hardworking, the resources are abundant, and it is a safe place to raise a family. Now, if we can change the way the State government operates, we will see an economic expansion here that everyone will benefit from,” says Steineke.

The 5th Assembly District represents portions of Green Bay, Little Chute, the City and Town of Kaukauna, Vandenbroek, Freedom, Seymour, Black Creek, Lawrence, Maple Grove, Hobart and Oneida.
