    A Daniels-Ryan ticket in 2012. I like it.

From N.M. Guariglia at Pajamas Media: “A Daniels-Ryan ticket would constitute an immense economic challenge to the Obama team in 2012. Both Daniels and Ryan are new, fresh, likable, highly accomplished, and untainted by the maelstrom of hyper-partisan politics. They’re conservative enough to reconcile the tea partiers with the GOP, and factual enough to appeal to all.”
Why Daniels? Well, for starters, he’s the best governor in the country. That may seem like a subjective statement, but consider the financial state of the 50 states — and then look at Indiana. The fiscally competent manner in which Daniels has governed the Hoosier State has created recent buzz about a potential candidacy for the White House in 2012. Andy Barr at Politico writes about Daniels’ record: “Indiana has turned its $200 million deficit into a $1.3 billion surplus, paid all outstanding debts, doubled venture capital investment in the state and increased employment.”
    Why Ryan?
… can anyone name a single politician in America who has publicly challenged President Obama’s policies more forcefully and coherently than Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan? Ryan is young, just 40-years-old. But he’s as smart as a whip. A few minutes of watching him discuss monetary policy or the wonders of the free market on YouTube will show that. He’s conservative but, like Daniels, not a firebrand. Like Daniels, there’s not a threatening thing about Ryan’s personality. And like Daniels, he’s a doer — and a man of ideas.

Ryan uses stubborn things, like facts, to emphasize his arguments. He seems to know every stat and chart in the books off the top of his head, and there’s no debating statistics when they’re presented to you in a clear and concise manner. Ryan’s ability to articulate complex ideas, and offer long-term remedies to difficult financial problems, has made him a rising star in the Republican Party. Watch him here take President Obama to task over the health care bill. Obama looked bewildered throughout the entire thing. Can you imagine a Ryan vs. Biden debate? It’s been said that Obama has tremendous respect for Ryan as an opponent. Something tells me Obama doesn’t want to see much of Ryan on the campaign trail come 2012. All the more reason he should be on it.

At this point I could be supportive of a Daniels-Ryan ticket, but only because Obama has performed so miserably. But I'm also unexcited with Ryan's performance and continuing support of special-interest politics.

Wow...I took the time to watch again the video of Paul Ryan. This ticket sounds like a winner to me. Let's hope the far left does not dig out some dirt on him to use this fall in his re-election campaign.

Yea, and when Ryan says "no means to pay for it" he's talking about the Bush tax cuts and the massive giveaways to the special interests that fund the elections. I get it.

While slightly off topic did anyone see the PBS show last night on how the Health Care bill wound its way thru 18 months of political rancor and finally got passed.? Normally I am not a PBS guy but stumbled across it flicking channels. PBS, in my opinion, took a very unbiased view and exposed the dirty underbelly of Washington politics and how things get done. If it replays you won't regret taking an hour of your time.

JB, I, too, stumbled upon PBS airing that most surprising program. Surprising because it actually did not have a liberal bias. If it shows again, folks should make an effort to watch it.

As far as a Daniels-Ryan ticket is concerned, too early to make a determination if the two of them are really electable. Perhaps, as Jo states, that ticket would attract the TEA party people. But is that enough to win an election? And no doubt about it, we (conservative GOPers) need to win that election.

Folks, the Health Care bill wound itself nowhere. It went exactly the direction it was intended to go; to the insurance industry that gave $26 million in campaign contributions. Do not wonder about it; fix the system!

Sorry such a ticket does not inspire me. Why? Because Ryan is a hypocrite. He voted for the bankster bailout, the car company bailouts. Oh, and otherwise weak on the constitution as a supporter of the PATRIOT Act(s) and our military interventionism. While Ryan SAYS mostly good things, you can not count on his votes to match his rhetoric. I am sick and tired of being stabbed in the back by "conservatives" who really are not when it comes to how they vote.

Consider this recent argument from Eric Erickson of Red State:
Mitch has revealed himself not so much as a fiscal conservative as a bureaucratic policy wonk.
Nope, not for me. My short list includes Chris Christie, Jim De mint, and Herman Cain. Need to find out more about each of these gents tho before I want to take anyone to the big dance.

I'd be excited to see Paul Ryan on the national ticket in 2012. I'd also like to see Reid Ribble defeat Dr. K. and to have Scott Walker for Governor. With these new faces we certainly would begin to see a change in the "politics as usual" mentality.
