ACORN partnering with friend, Mayor Barrett

At FoxPolitics, we’ve tried to keep track of the trials and tribulations of the folks at ACORN – letting you know of the organization’s phoenix-like quality (Be not misled, ACORN funding is alive and well).
[ACORN]’s housing affiliate, long one of the best-financed offshoots, has been hit especially hard. The group, which changed its name to the Affordable Housing Centers of America this year, now has 17 offices, down from 29 a year ago. The housing group’s annual budget has dropped to $6 million this year, down from $24 million last year.
[T]he political arm of ACORN will ostensibly be no more. But fear not…. the phoenix arises. In a report by Republican members of the Committee on Oversight & Government Reform, ranking member Rep. Darrell Issa (CA-49) is making sure America knows what’s going on
… ACORN is in the process of renaming many of its state and local offices but keeping the same employees and Tax Identification Numbers. For example, Affordable Housing Centers of America was formerly ACORN Housing. The new corporation has the same Tax Identification Number and Employee Identification Number as ACORN Housing, which received millions of dollars in funding from HUD.
…. Matthew Vadum at The American Spectator, in a seeming contradiction, reminded us this weekend that ACORN funding is alive and well.
In a move ignored by the media, OMB director Peter Orszag circulated a directive to federal agencies ordering them to begin funding ACORN again. ACORN is the hyperpartisan lead group in the Health Care for America Now (HCAN) coalition and has long supported a government takeover of the U.S. health care system.
So where does ACORN show up? Right in our backyard.

Sunday, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced the city’s sponsorship of Take Root Milwaukee, a “valuable resource that provides free or low-cost, trustworthy and confidential assistance to help you purchase and keep your new home, in addition to alternatives to foreclosure.”

Aiding Mayor Barrett in that effort as fellow “Take Root Participants” are, among others, Freddie Mac and, lo and behold, the Affordable Housing Centers of America. ACORN – remember?

And this Mayor Barrett-ACORN partnership business isn’t new – back in 2009, several (four) representatives from ACORN Housing were members of workgroups formed as part of Milwaukee’s Foreclosure Partnership Initiative

The phoenix continues its re-rising – in Milwaukee, right alongside Mayor Barrett. I’ve got to say, that makes me a little nervous…

    Jo,
Can you say exactly how ACORN works with HUD and housing? Does it work to provide workforce affordable housing? transitional housing? or is it working to provide housing for people who don't deserve shelter?
