Shown: Russ Feingold - Out of touch with business

In last week's Senate debate between Russ Feingold and Ron Johnson, Feingold touted his support of embryonic stem cell research as proof he was "in touch" with the Wisconsin business community. Regardless of how you feel about embryonic stem cell research, does anyone believe that Russ Feingold is a pro-business Senator? Does anyone believe the policies he advocates will improve the business, and ultimately, the job climate in Wisconsin and beyond?

    Yeah, me neither.

Feingold's support for the stimulus and health reform bills would seem to outweigh his newly professed support of the business community. A recent poll found as many as 68% of people thought that the stimulus was a "waste."

While it's true there is support among the American people for embryonic stem cell research, at least some portion of that support is based on the fact that surplus embryos from in vitro fertilization will be destroyed anyway. Even beyond that though, there still remains sizable opposition to the practice. A recent poll found that:
Twenty-eight percent of those polled agreed with the following statement: "I don't believe that we should put the interests of medical science ahead of the preservation of human life, which includes human embryos."
So Feingold supports embryonic stem cell research despite opposition to it and he supports the stimulus despite overwhelming opposition to it. Taken together these positions amount to an agenda that is anti-life and anti-business. While these positions may be in line with Russ Feingold's personal views, they don't appear to represent the views of many Wisconsin voters and they certainly don't qualify him as "in touch" with the business community, no matter what he says.

Ya know, supporting the stimulus may not be popular cuz a lot of people don't understand it but it helps the economy. It is good for business.

How can you think that supporting stem cell research is anti-business? Is there no limit to your bias?

Anti-life? For embryos that will otherwise be flushed? I killed a fly today, should I be charged with murder?
What about women who ovulate and fail to concieve or men who discharge sperm? Murder!! Anti-life!!

Feingold also believes we shouldn't be allowed to eat what we want. His support of S510 proves that--the bill would give even more power to the FDA, even having power over farms! The same FDA that went on record in court to say, "plaintiffs have no fundamental right to obtain any food they wish".

Feingold's staffers that I spoke to in 2009, when S425 reared its ugly head, indicated he preferred S510. S510 would give FDA power over farms that direct-market products EVEN WITHIN THEIR STATES; INTRASTATE! This is not even constitutional!

Also, S510 would mandate OUR tax dollars to go to foreign countries to "improve their food safety". WTO is expected to set high tolerance standards for melamine (recall the contaminated baby food?), so the US would be forced to accept this contaminant.

S510 also would bring DHS into enforcement--so much for Feingold's "no" vote on DHS! In short, S510 is NOT about food safety; FDA already has existing requirements for food safety, but are lax on enforcement. S510 is purely and simply about massive government control; right up Russ's alley.
