Hanson looking for your vote in the 57th
The district is a tough one – a less than 50% Republican district. Current Representative Penny Bernard Schaber has voted with the Dem leadership and Governor Doyle something like 98% of the time. She’s made some drastic votes – serious stuff.
Bernard Schaber says she’s your “new voice” in Madison. Well, your “new voice”:
- Voted to reduce state support for Appleton schools, resulting in an 8% increase in the AASD property tax levy. Wow. And that’s after $2.3 billion of the feds’ stimulus money went to Wisconsin schools. Wow again.
- Voted to raise state and local taxes and fees almost $5 billion over two years – in a time of recession, high unemployment and home foreclosures.
- Voted to use your telephone as a piggy bank, creating still another “phone tax” and raising taxes by $107 million.
- Voted to raise taxes on Wisconsin businesses by over $200 million, driving jobs out of Wisconsin at a time we must fight to retain every job we can.
- Voted to sweep $230 million more of your hard-earned dollars into the black hole of government when she voted to raise Wisconsin’s capital gans tax.
- Voted to raise nursing home costs for private-pay patients by $70 million.
- Voted in favor of a huge increase in auto insurance rates – slipped into the budget with no public hearing!
- Voted to give drivers licenses to illegal immigrants
- Voted to exempt the 2010-11 fiscal year from the constitutional requirement that the budget be balanced. Unbelievable.
Yup, unbelievable. There’s more. Tons of it. Would you have voted for this stuff? Yup, your “new voice” did.
You have a choice. Chris Hanson is a successful businesswoman who must balance her business revenues and expenses every single month. Hanson has built a successful business based on long experience in and extensive knowledge of the health insurance industry. She has long been active in her profession and balances countless community responsibilities. Like Jim Steineke, Hanson has endured over a hundred thousand dollars worth of false advertising by the Greater Wisconsin Committee (calling her a lobbyist – what? Yes, Chris has shared her expertise with her legislator during Chamber of Commerce visits to Madison – that’s a privilege we are all granted – it most certainly does not make her a “lobbyist.” Lies. Ridiculous, atrocious FALSE claims.)
Yes, the choice is clear. Successful, knowledgeable, conservative small business person. Vs. a longtime public sector employee who voted repeatedly to increase fees, taxes – and spending.
In the 57th Assembly District, vote Chris Hanson on Tuesday.

COMMENTS
How does the State representative make a vote that raises Nursing home costs?
The stories of people being hurt by the recession are Legion! Even families where jobs have not been lost there have been reductions in pay. And then I read that a county supervisor wanting to raise the sales tax .5% said it is only a nickel of a ten dollar bill.
How many more nickels are there coming out of our ten dollar bill?
I am glad Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming. I can be Thankful for my country and my freedom to worship the Son.

Yes, it will be refreshing to have the 57th Assembly District back in the hands of a conservative individual. Chris will have a lot to learn in Madison, but she is ready and prepared to embrace the legislative agenda with fairness, values and integrity as her watchwords. Chris will be a strong leader and we will find our district being represented by someone who does more than simply march in the footsteps of our liberal governor Doyle. Additionally, Chris will bring her knowledge of small business management with her to our State's capital. She will be a strong voice concerning working individuals, health care, job creation, fiscal responsiblity and budget management.I can't wait to vote tomorrow!

David, the Assembly votes to raise taxes on all the nursing home costs. I can't even begin to recall what they are but over the past year or so they are numerous. I'm sure Jo has a link at her fingertips. It's been in the newspaper. I don't know that it was on TV news.
I do know that Penny received maximum donations from individuals all over the U.S. in her last campaign. Not just a $25 or $50 donation, but the $500 maximum from these people. I find that odd.
She's a sure vote for any bill Democrats wish to pass. If it's Left, it's Schaber.

C. R. Stevenson (Mon Nov 01 10:42:43 2010)
PBS is a weak spine individual who doesn't have a "clue" about what goes on in Madison. She's a lemming who just does what she is told to do by her "bosses" in Madison. I detest all the lies that are being thrown at Chris Hanson [like the "S" corp. taxes and that she is a lobbyist for the insurance industry.] The "S" corp taxes have been addressed by numerous CPA's, one of which you should note is a Democrat. The inaccurate portrayal of her as a lobbyist is so inaccurate. She fights the insurance industry on behalf of her clients. She sets up plans for small companies, mom and pop type who don't have a legion of lawyers and human resources people to wade through the paperwork. Guess the Dems are at it again...if you can't win on the facts, try to distort them and spew out lies. I hope that the electorate are smart enough to see through them!

The problem with Penny is that not only is she wrong on most issues, she lacks the moral courage to stand on her own two feet.
Her actions, or I should say lack of them, during the Pay Day Loan legislation battle showed she is nothing but a rubber stamp for the leadership.
We need candidates on both sides to have the courage to do what is right for the people they represent. Not thier careers.

Dale (Mon Nov 01 11:48:11 2010)
When I asked Penney why she voted for the increase in auto premiums hidden in the budget and asked her if she knew she was voting for an increase in the premium of each of her constituents, her reply was, "I never thought of it that way", She never thought it would cost more to give more? Inbelievable.!

Don Schleicher (Mon Nov 01 15:27:43 2010)
Dale, I couldn't agree with you more. I only hope that the electorate sees Penny for what she is and her ineffectiveness in Madison and chooses someone with "fire in her belly" to get things done in Madison.

Sour grapes, much?

Marcus (Mon Nov 01 17:06:55 2010)
Sour grapes? Bad policy is bad policy, bad votes are bad votes. It's important to remind voters of them. It's a matter of being informed. Feel free to disagree, but sour grapes? - No.
