That's IT - show Karl Rove he's wrong
That’s surely why I want to vote for someone. How about you? The e-letter below was sent to the Kewaunee County GOP from, as you can see, the Kagen campaign. Dated yesterday, 6:03 p.m. Sent to Kewauneegop@gmail.com. Pretty obvious where it was going. (No anonymous-type e-mail address.)
Perhaps I’m contributing, in a way, to the Kagen campaign treasury by forwarding his letter to all parts known and unknown. I’m placing my bets however, that many of you may appreciate the campaign tactic but disavow the message, seeing it as a bit un-Congressmanlike. Let me know (seriously) if you’ve been compelled to contribute…
Dear , [A “blank” in the salutation? That’s a no-no.]
I need your help.
Why? He's back! Recently, Karl Rove and his attack dogs began their campaign to distort reality - again. He and his cronies made malicious robot telephone calls and spent thousands of dollars on twisted radio ads to deceive voters here in my district in Northeast Wisconsin.
Last November, Karl Rove did everything he could to keep me out of Congress, but thanks to your help we won the election and sent Rove's handpicked candidate home empty handed. Rove's not one to give up easy. He and the national Republican party have me in their gunsights and I'll need your help to win re-election.
Click here to contribute and keep Kagen in Congress .
I have been working hard every day, and kept my word by voting to move us away from Iraq and back after Al-Qaeda [What does this mean? What vote was this?], to restore honesty to our government, to defend our higher-wage manufacturing jobs, to raise the minimum wage and to provide access to affordable health care for every citizen, especially for our children and military veterans. [show me the votes….]
I also fought to protect our troops against an incompetent President who cannot understand reality.
We are now in a battle to keep control of the House of Representatives. Karl Rove thinks I'm a weak link that can be picked off with a big infusion of Republican money and dirty tricks. Let's show Karl Rove he's wrong. Please contribute today.
Working together, we will build a better nation for all of us.
Steve Kagen Member of Congress Wisconsin - 8th District
Thanks to Todd Lohenry, chair of the Kewaunee County Republican Party, for forwarding this Kagen fundraising piece.

Unbelievable! That's what I say to the Kagen fundraising letter. I sincerely hope the people of Northeast Wisconsin will wake up and see what we've sent to congress. Wow! Needless to say I didn't click "donate now".

Hey, I would gladly donate to Steve Kagen's campaign if he could stop all those annoying, incessant Republican Party robocalls from clogging up my voicemail. I love it... JE

Jo, Looks like a very standard fundraising letter to me, one that if it had came from a Republican you would be praising. Much of what is wrong with government today is the partisan nature of votes rather than doing what's right for the people. If the media would stop working to divide us, congress might be able to start working together, and maybe, just maybe, something would get done.
The Democrats have done no better than the Republicans. First of all Don, I wouldn't be praising this coming from a Republican. It's not constructive, certainly not issue-centered. A democracy is, by its nature, partisan. Thank heavens for partisans - partisans who have completely different ideas about "what's right for the people." And sometime partisanship and democracy is contentious - but I agree that we certainly must work toward it being professional and constructive. JE

You guys read more of this stuff than I do. I got one of those and I swear I never signed up for Kagen campaign lit. Only made one stop the war post on his website prior to the election and never got a reply.
The current one that was sent out I just deleted without reading.
Kagen has become an embarrassment to the peace movement.
And while we don't have No Confidence votes for congressmen, I believe that a good progressive candidate can beat him next time. But no, I'd never vote for a John Gard Republican of any sort for any reason-- that's an embarrassment of a different kind.
Entrenchment of elected officials-- Sensenbrenner being the most gross example-- is the cause of much of what is wrong with the electoral system. That said, I think it'd be smart to let Kagen know that he won't have to worry about term limits being enacted.
