Perhaps veto pen should target last minute stuff...

Ok, no more about the state budget for a while after today. Promise. Can’t miss the end of the process however – that famous creative veto pen held by the guv. I’m thinking the governor should look really seriously at the stuff that wasn’t in the budget until literally the very last day. Now, how critical could this stuff be? You be the judge. Where a location can be identified, I’ve included the name of the Representative from that district.

$2,800,000 for Green Bay’s Fox River boardwalk – CityDeck (Rep. Soletski, Dem)
$1,200,000 to the Village of Pleasant Prairie for roadwork on 85th St. between 65th Ave. and 51st. Ave. (Rep. Steinbrink, Dem)
$360,000 to municipalities with devalued manufacturing property in Wood, Adams and Portage counties. (Rep.’s Vruwink, Molepske, Schneider, all Dems; Molepske and Schneider voted Yes for the budget)
$250,000 for Project Lead the Way
$100,000 more (was $600,000) to Boys and Girls Clubs of America (the organization that was the recipient of monies raised via the two Doyle inaugurals).
$64,800 for 2 additional assistant D.A.’s in Kenosha County, effective 1/1/09. (Assembly Minority Leader Jim Kreuser’s county)
$25,000 for the City of Mondovi for a community youth center. (Rep. Gronemus, Dem)
$15,400 to Stevens Point for economic development (Rep. Molepske, Dem)

Allow the Mars Cheese Castle to relocate its sign, notwithstanding any local restrictions. (Assembly Minority Leader Jim Kreuser)

Require DOT to install two signs in Marinette County, reading “CTH CP/Business 141”

Tax payment extensions for the Village of Bagley and the Town of Wyalusing, if properties were flooded. 7/31/07 tax payments are now due next week – Oct. 31.

Just interesting - Full-Time Equivalent Positions – All Funds
    67,539, 2006-07
68,027, 2008-09, an increase of .7% over the biennium.

    The Deviates
As you know, the Senate voted for the budget along party lines, with not one deviating, Dems for, GOP members against.

The Assembly was a different story. The 60 Aye votes (10 more than needed) were from 23 Republicans and 37 Dems. Below are the deviate Assembly voters; all representatives and senators (Dems and Reps) from the Fond du Lac/Sheboygan to Green Bay corridor voted against the budget except Karl Van Roy (R-Green Bay), Al Ott (R-Forest Junction – my representative – eeek, Tom Nelson (D-Kaukauna) and Terry Van Akkeren (D-Sheboygan).

Dems who voted AGAINST the budget:
    Benedict
    Cullen
    Hintz
    Hubler
    Jorgensen
    Krusick
    Shilling
    Vruwink
    Wasserman
    Ziegelbauer

Republicans who voted FOR the budget:
    Ballweg
    Davis
    Fitzgerald
    Friske
    Hahn
    Hines
    Speaker Huebsch
    Meyer
    Moulton
    Mursau
    Murtha
    Musser
    Nerison
    Ott, Al
    Petersen
    Petrowski
    Rhoades
    Suder
    Tauchen
    Townsend
    Van Roy
    Williams
    Wood

    Yes.

Veto all of it. Both parties - policy and pork.

Doyle should wipe it all out on a bi-partisan basis. From bean machine to bike paths.

He could then be the reasonable one - kinda.
